(1)Christian Service And Behavior
Introduction
Christianity is the life of God revealed through the human person. It is God dwelling in the heart of man and causing the man to manifest such attributes known only with God.
“If any man be in Christ Jesus, He is a new creation; old things are passed away and all things are become new.(2 Corinthians 5:17).
The new creation has a brand new life working in him. It is the life of God.
“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, entleness, goodness, temperance, against such there is no law.â€
(2) Our Confession
Christianity is a life of confession.
Confession comes from the Greek word, ‘Homolodia’ which means, speaking the same thing with God in consent.
What we speak is not what we see, think or feel. We speak what we believe. (Hebrews 13:5-6)
It is our confessions that put our faith to work.
Salvation is sealed by confession.
Our confessions set our lives on course. Our lives go in the direction of our confession. The Bible says;
(Hebrews 11:3)
(3) Life And Death Is In The Power Of The Tongue
Pro 18:21
The last point deals with saying the same things with God. In other words agreeing with God with our words, but these one deals with the power of our tongue.
The tongue has power to kill or make alive.
The reason why we have to agree with God and say what He says is because His words are spirit and they are life. (John 6:63). Therefore, His word will produce life for us.
Any other words will produce negative things because there is power in the tongue. The Bible says;
The power to control life lies in the tongue even though the tongue is one of the smallest members of the body. (James 3:2-6)
the tongue controls everything about life.
Mark 11:22, we shall live whatsoever we say.
We must keep speaking the word of God. The Bible says we should hold fast our confession.
(4) Faith Walk
The Christian walk is a walk of faith. (Hebrews 11:6)
We should be focused on nothing else but on the word. (2Corinthians 4:18).
Everything the senses can perceive is temporal. They are subject to change
For we walk by faith and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7). Our walk of faith is based on the law of faith.
The law of faith declares, (2 Corinthians 4:13).
“We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believe and therefore have I spoken; we also believe and therefore speak.â€
This is why God has said, ‘let the weak say, I am strong.’
(5) Christianity Is A Life Of Submission
The Christian life is a life of submission. Submission is to the word of God.
When we submit ourselves to one another or to the authority (both spiritual and earthly) we are submitting to the word because, it is the word that admonishes us to live in submission.
There are three level of Authority that the Bible asks the Christian to recognize and submit to. They are:
(a) Authority In The Home
Ephesians 5:22-23
Ephesians 5:25
(Ephesians 6:1-3.
(b) Civil Authority
Romans 13:1-2
I Timothy 2:1-2.
(c) Authority In The Church
Hebrews 13:17.
CLASS 5B
Christian Service And Behavior
Christian Service Ministry
Christian Service Ministry
Service means ministration and worship to God. It means one who runs errand. We are involved in divine service.
We are called into spiritual service to the Lord (Romans 12:1-3).
It is not what we do on Sundays or Wednesdays or when we go for prayer meetings.
Serving God is much more than rendering service. It is really our ENTIRE LIFE. It is a life of service totally sold out and consecrated to the master.
The Great Commission
God has given every Christian a responsibility on earth. (Matthew 28:18-20)
This is what is commonly referred to as the great commission. It is the
Commandment given by the Lord to the whole body of believers.
He said we should teach all nations the gospel and get them baptized in His name. (Mark 16:15-16).
So the Holy Spirit brought to us the power to render the spiritual service to the Lord.
The Need For Training
For every worth while venture, there must be enough training, so as to achieve maximum result. The same thing applies to God’s work.
every one who is a member of the body of Christ, ought to be trained and thoroughly furnished to carry out this great work.
Ephesians 4:11-13
God’s plan is that every child of His gets involved in the work of the ministry/ service
He also made provision for the training of His children for this work.
David trained as a shepherd, I Samuel 17:34-36. He was later to become the greatest king of Israel.
Moses on the other hand, had to be trained for forty years before he could do that which he was called to do (Exodus 1:3).
The basic tool for training is the word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
The Ministry Of Reconciliation
God has appointed the Church to be the deaconry through which the world gets to Christ. Jesus said,
“I am the way, the truth and the life, for no man goeth before the Father except by me.â€
The Church is His body and so continuing the work also means that Jesus is still doing His work. Paul said,
“To wit, that God was in the world reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them, and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us, be ye reconciled to God.â€2 Corinthians 5:19-20).
God was reconciling the world to Himself through Jesus Christ. Today, however, God is living in us and through us, is reconciling the world to Himself.
be consistent with the sharing of the gospel (2 Timothy 4:2)
the one who gets involved on the soul winning work is a wise man Pro 11:30
and Daniel says they will shine as the stars of heaven Daniel 12:3.
Ministry In The Church
There are two different aspects of Christian service and ministry,
There is an aspect of the ministry that deals with the evangelization of the world and
there is the one that deals with the building up of the body of Christ. (ie those already called out of the world.
Ephesians 4:7 talks about the gifts needed to build up the body of Christ.
This also shows that building the church is a team work. Every member of the church should be as vitally involved in church building as he is in evangelizing the world. (Ephesians 4:15-16).
The church can only grow when the members make use of the gifts God has given them. Corinthians 12:27-28.
